Till the European come, the Maori tribe prevailed on these lands. Captain James Cook visited Auckland in 1769, during his voyage to the shores of New Zealand. A turning point in the history of the city was year 1840, as the Treaty of Waitangi was signed, and from this period began a rapid development of the city. In the 20^th century lots of foreigners filled the most comfortable hotels of Auckland. The first of them appeared not far from the city center.
